Trip Overview
This trip officially begins and ends at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport (CDG). Depending on where the student is traveling from, they will either meet their group leaders in the departures hall of the terminal or at the gate. Details will be coordinated after flights are booked.
Group Flight
Imagine arriving in sunny, warm Antigua and stepping aboard your own sail boat, ready to spend the next ten days exploring the Caribbean from the water. From the moment you arrive, the boat becomes your home, your classroom, and your gateway to adventure. You’ll learn how to sail, work as a crew, navigate the coastline, and become confident handling a boat alongside your teammates—all while exploring the islands of Antigua and Barbuda. With a maximum of just 9 students, 2 Of The World leaders and 2 boat captains, you’ll be part of a small, close-knit crew where everyone has a role to play.
Your days will be filled with sailing between secluded bays, snorkeling over coral reefs, kayaking through mangroves, swimming in crystal-clear Caribbean waters, and discovering the history, culture, and environment of the islands. You’ll explore the colorful streets of the capital St. John’s, prepare a meal with a local chef, learn about marine conservation, and hike to Shirley Heights for spectacular views across Antigua. Along the way, you’ll learn skills that go far beyond simply steering a boat—from sea survival and emergency procedures to tying essential knots and communicating by VHF radio.
But the real adventure happens onboard as we sail two boats side-by-side, a mono-hull and a catamaran. Students will have the opportunity to work between both boats during the trip. You’ll raise sails, steer, navigate, anchor, work together as a crew, and even practice man-overboard procedures. By the end of the program, you’ll have spent ten days living and learning on the water, challenged yourself in a completely different environment, and earned your Royal Yachting Association (RYA) Competent Crew certification—an internationally recognized sailing qualification and a real achievement you can take home with you.
This isn’t just a sailing trip, it’s ten days of adventure, challenge, discovery, and independence. You’ll wake up on the water, sail to somewhere new, swim straight from the boat, explore islands with your friends, and watch the Caribbean sunset from the deck. Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Depart from Paris & Arrive in Antigua & Barbuda
Your adventure starts the moment we meet at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport. Our Of the World trip leaders will either meet you in the departures hall and guide you through check-in and security, or meet you at the gate to connect with the rest of the group if you're arriving from a connecting flight. From then on you’ll be traveling together as a team. Settle in, get to know your fellow explorers, and let the anticipation of feeling that warm, Caribbean air build.
We arrive in Antigua in the evening and make our way to Jolly Harbour Marina where we will meet the captains, settle into our cabins on one of two boats and set sail for Five Islands Bay.
Day 3: Sea Survival & Radio Certification
What happens if someone falls overboard? Today we will not only learn personal survival techniques and how to use a life raft but also get in touch with the authorities and other boats for help using VHF radio communication.
Day 2: Testing Your Sea Legs
After waking up and eating a hearty breakfast, the real work begins! Today we will learn the basics of sailing like where port, starboard, aft and stern of the boat. We will start to become familiar with the required safety equipment and start practicing our rope work and knots.
Day 4: St. John's Cultural Day
Today is a day off of the boat. We will take a walking tour of St. John's - The largest town and capital of Antigua and Barbuda. In the afternoon we will learn to cook authentic Caribbean cuisine and finish the day with a bonfire on the beach.
Day 5: Competent Crew & Kayaking
This morning is all about conservation. It's not only good for us to take care of the boat, but also the habitats and waters we visit while sailing. We will spend the morning in kayaks learning about the mangrove ecosystems that surround much of the islands and also learn what is being done to protect the habitats and species that call these islands their home. In the afternoon, we will be back on the water, sailing around and practicing our skills.
Day 6: East Coast Conservation
After breakfast we will put our skills to use and sail down to Carlisle Bay where we will join in a discussion about marine conservation and take a guided snorkel tour of a coral reef nursery.
Day 7: English Harbour Heritage Day
After waking up, we will sail around the island towards Falmouth Harbour where we will come ashore in English Harbour, and explore this small town on the southern side of Antigua, famous for naval history. After lunch we will hike to Shirley Heights for a panoramic view of the island before coming back for a relaxing evening of beach time and walking around the town.
Day 8: Final Training
Today is focused on practicing all of our learned skills and preparing for the exam. We will focus on things like handling the boat, crew rotations and man overboard drills.
Day 9: Certification & Departure
Our final day on the boat is all about celebrating our accomplishments over the last week. We will have a final chance to swim in the warm, crystal clear Caribbean waters before being presented with your official Royal Yachting Association Competent Crew certificate and heading to the airport for our return home.
Day 10: Arrival Home
After flying over the night, we will land back at Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport in the morning, allowing you to easily connect to your flight home and to share all of the photos, adventures and excitement over the last 10 days with your families and friends.
